Description
China, Warring States. State of Zhao. 300-250 B.C. Æ straight knife (130 mm, 12.59 g). "Bai Bi" / Blank as made. Hartill 4.60 // Lot also includes: China, Warring States. State of Ming. 400-220 B.C. Æ knife (138 mm, 14.00 g). "Ming" / "Tso." Coole 6978; BMC 1822. The first VF with an attractive earthen-green patina and overall quite nice. The second broken at the middle but otherwise VF and with similar patina.
The earliest Chinese currencies took the form of common farm implements, tools and weapons.
