Description
Thracian Kingdom. Lysimachos. As King, 306-281 B.C. AR drachm (17 mm, 4.14 g, 7 h). Lampsakos, ca. 299/8-297/6 B.C. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin headdress / ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ, Zeus seated left, holding eagle and scepter; in left field, dolphin left over forepart of lion left; below throne, torch. Thompson 36; Price L12; N. Sicurella, "An unpublished drachm of Lysimachus," The Celator 10.6 (June 1996), figs. 1-2 (same dies). Very rare. Die-break on reverse, lightly toned. Very fine.
