Lot 246: ANTIQUITIES, Pihuamo male

A choice Pihuamo figure from the Colima-Michoacan border region of Mexico, c.100 BC – 250 AD. This excellent male figure is 6-1/2” high and is posed with hands held to his thighs. He is wearing a headdress with ornament, perhaps a shaman’s insignia, large ear ornaments, a segmented necklace and armbands. Clothing is indicated with layered molding or appliqué workmanship. The burnished red slip shows good mineral deposits. Museum deaccession. Value range: $400 - $600
