Description

England, Norman Kings. Henry I. 1100-1135. AR penny (20 mm, 1.43 g, 2 h). Pellets in quatrefoil type (type XIV). Winchester, 1123. Hengel(g)ram, moneyer. Crowned facing bust, holding scepter in right hand; star to right / +hENG[...]M ON PI[...], quatrefoil with central star and three pellets in each limb; lis in each quarter. Allen 884 (?) bust A; North 870; SCBC 1275. Rare. Striking weakness, flaw on edge, fairly clear portrait. Very fine.
