Description
DIVUS AUGUSTUS. Died 14 AD. Æ Sestertius (36mm - 25.05 g). Rome mint. Struck under Tiberius, circa 36-37 AD. DIVO/AVGVSTO/S P Q R in left field, statue of Augustus seated left on throne, holding laurel branch in right hand and scepter in left hand, set on ornate car drawn by four elephants; each elephant has its own mahout / TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVST P M TR POT XXXIIX, legend around large SC. RIC I 68 (Tiberius); BMCRE 125 (Tiberius); Cohen 308. Fine, brown patina, some roughness and light smoothing in fields, some of the legends on the reverse probably enhanced.
