Description

Roman. 2nd-3rd centuries A.D. Lot of five tokens and amulets. The largest is 24 mm in diameter and is an amulet or talisman, is made of lead, and depicts the radiate bust of Sol or Mithras to the right. It is looped for suspension, has some heavy encrustations at the edges and is a bit wavy. The remaining tokens are all of baked clay and are seal impressions. The largest of these is 17 x 21 mm and depicts the head of a late Antonine emperor, either Marcus Aurelius or Commodus. The second largest is 17 x 20 mm and depicts two confronted Antonine or Severan period busts, a female on the left and a male on the right. The remaining two are, respectively, 11 and 9 mm across. The larger of these depicts a draped female bust right, while the smaller shows the head of Serapis right supported on the wings of an eagle. The clay tokens overall are very fine with some light sandy deposits.
