Theodosius II. A.D. 402-450. AV solidus (21 mm, 4.40 g, 6 h). Constantinople, ca. A.D. 441-450. D N T·HEODOSI-VS P · F · AVG, diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Theodosius II facing slightly right, holding spear over shoulder and shield decorated with horseman spearing enemy / IMP · XXXXII · COS XVII · P · P ·, Constantinopolis enthroned left, resting foot on prow, holding globus cruciger and scepter; at her side to right, shield; in left field, star; COMOB. Cf. RIC 301; Depeyrot 84/1. Good very fine.
RIC 301 has five points on the reverse, as does this specimen. However, on the obverse, there is a misplaced point in the emperor's name. The only other example noted in RIC with a misplaced point is RIC 295, mentioned in the footnotes on p. 262, which has C·OS on the reverse.
