Description
Thessaly, Thessalian League. Late 2nd-mid 1st centuries B.C. AR stater (20 mm, 6.37 g, 1 h). Damothoinos and Philoxinides, magistrates. Laureate head of Zeus right / ΘEΣΣA-ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, wielding javelin and holding forth shield; above spear and in exergue, magistrates' names: [Δ]A-MOΘ[OINOΣ] and ΦIΛOΞENI. BCD Thessaly II 870.3-4. Great portrait just a touch off center, but with very attractive light toning of subtle gold, ash-gray, and purple hues. Nice extremely fine.
