Description
Attica, Athens. Ca. 454-404 B.C. AR tetradrachm (23 mm, 11.98 g, 9 h). Helmeted head of Athena right, with frontal eye / ΑΘΕ, owl standing right, head facing; above and behind, olive sprig and crescent; all within incuse square. Kroll 8; SNG Copenhagen 31. Obverse a bit rough with some dirty deposits, test cut on reverse. Nearly very fine.
An unusual coin. The light weight would suggest a fourre issue, but the deep test cut clearly reveals silver to the core. Style-wise, the coin looks authentic and there are no signs of clipping. A coin worthy of more study
