Syria, Seleucis and Pieria. Laodicea ad Mare. Septimius Severus. A.D. 193-211. AR tetradrachm (27 mm, 14.49 g, 12 h). A.D. 208-9. AVT KAI CEOVHPOC CЄ, laureate and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus right, with gorgoneion on breast / ΔHMAPX EΞ YΠATOC TO Γ, eagle standing facing, head turned left, holding wreath in beak; star between legs. Prieur 1151; McAlee, Severan grp. 3, 24. Choice flan and one of the finest styled obverse dies in the entire Syrian tetradrachm series. A special coin. Superb extremely fine.
