GAIUS, "Caligula". 37-41 AD. Æ Sestertius (34mm - 28.98 g). Rome mint. Struck 39-40 AD. C CAESAR DIVI AVG PRO N AVG P M TR P III P , PIETAS in exergue, Pietas, veiled, seated left and holding patera in extended right hand, left elbow resting on small facing statue / DIVO-AVG, S-C across field, Gaius sacrificing before hexastyle temple; one attendant leading bull to altar, the other holding a patera. RIC I 44; BMCRE p. 156, † (pl. 28, 9); BN 104. VF, patina stripped, now a golden brown color with some dark areas around the devices, surfaces a little rough.
