CRUSADERS. Chios. Circa 1382-1400. AV Ducat (25mm - 8.40 g). Imitating Venice. Struck in the name of Antonio Venier, 1382-1400. St. Mark standing right, holding Gospels and presenting flag (type 1) to Doge kneeling left; triple pellets to left of flag / Christ standing facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels, surrounded by elliptical halo containing four stars to left, five to right. Cf. CNI VII 30; Ives -; cf. Schlumberger pl. XIV, 11; Gamberini -. Good VF, some striking weakness. Mounted in a 14K gold bezel between two pieces of glass that hold the coin in place without damaging the coin. Attractive and suitable for wearing. The weight and diameter for the coin in the description include the bezel.
