Description
Libius Severus. A.D. 461-465. Æ minim (9 mm, 0.83 g, 7'). Roma. Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right; no legend visible / Monogram of Ricimer. RIC 2715; LRBC 871. Fair/VF, brown patina. Very rare and historically important type depicting the monogram of Ricimer.
Libius Severus was a Roman non-entity and the puppet of the generalissimo Ricimer. Little is known about him except that he died of natural causes in 465, a remarkable achievement for western emperor during this period.
