Description

Lydia, Sardes. Ca. 166-67 B.C. AR tetradrachm. Cistophoric type. Ca. 150-135 B.C. Serpent emerging from within cista mystica with lid ajar; all within ivy wreath / Two serpents entwined around bowcase; in left field, monogram of city; in right field, horizontal sword in shield. Kleiner & Noe series 6; SNG von Aulock 8443. Toned, reverse struck a little off center. Rare issue. Very fine.
