Description

LICINIUS I, and LICINIUS II. 308-324 AD. Æ Follis (22mm - 4.14 g). Antioch mint. Struck 317-318 AD. DD NN IOVII LICINII INVICT AVG ET CAES, confronted bust of Licinius I and Licinius II, both laureate and draped, holding between them a trophy / IO M ET VIRTVTI DD NN AVG ET CAES, Jupiter standing left, leaning on sceptre, in front of trophy, at foot of which sit two captives; SMATS. RIC VII 50 (Heraclea); Bastien, NumChron 1973, no. 5 and pl. 6, 28. VF, dark brown patina, typically rough surfaces. .

Bastien suggests in his article that the double bust folles of Licinius were probably distributed during Licinius' decennalia on 11 November 317, or at the beginning of his fifth consulship in 318.
