Description

MOESIA INFERIOR. Marcianopolis. Elagabalus, with Julia Maesa. 218-222 AD. Æ Pentassarion (28mm - 14.66 g). Julius Antonius Seleucus, magistrate. Confronted busts of Elagabalus, laureate, draped and cuirassed facing right and Maesa, diademed and draped facing left / Serapis standing left, holding wreath in right hand, scepter in left; E in right field. AMNG -; Hristova and Jekov -; Varbanov -. Fine, dark greenish-brown patina.

Apparently an unrecorded variety with Serapis holding a wreath. There is a similar type recorded for Elagabalus/Maesa with Serapis standing left raising his right hand. This reverse type is recorded for this magistrate but with the obverse featuring Elagabalus and Soaemias.
