Lot 437: ANTIQUITIES, Moche Combat Scene

A fine Moche V combat scene from Peru, c. 550 – 700 AD. This highly burnished blackware jar is 7-1/2” high and has two scenes depicting Supernatural Warriors. One is most likely a representation of Wrinkle Face, who is typically shown with serpents emanating from his belt and body. He is holding a long battle club and is wearing a complex helmet with tumi adorno. The other is a Feline Demon carrying a weapons bundle in one hand and a decapitated head in the other. A large feline head is suspended from his back. In excellent condition, with good mineral deposits. Ex Espinoza estate. Value Range: $500 - $600
