Description

A fine Moche V globular jar from Peru, c. AD 550 – 700, decorated with three complex depictions of weapons bundles, showing a shield, battle club, atlatl and spears, surrounded by various decorative designs. The chevron rim band shows the Huari stylistic influence on ceramics from this Terminal Period. H: 6 ¼”. Cf. Donnan, Moche Fineline Painting I, page 155, for nearly identical example from Berlin’s Museum for Volkerkunde. Ex Andrea Sarmiento collection, Miami. Value range $350-$450.
