Description
Gordian III. A.D. 238-244. AR denarius (20 mm, 2.93 g, 7 h). Rome, A.D. 240. IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III right / VENVS V-ICTRIX, Venus standing facing, head left, holding plumed helmet and transverse scepter; at her side behind, shield. RIC 131; RSC 347. Well struck with Gordian's portrait in high relief. Underlying luster. Small lamination flaw below bust. Superb extremely fine.
