Description
India, Ahichchatra kingdom of Pancala. Yajnabala. Ca. 2nd century A.D. Æ 1/2 karshapana (12 mm, .95 g). Lamp flanked by standards, all resting on sacred pedestal / Brahmi legend Yajnaba(la), with three Panchala dynastic symbols above. Not listed in Mitchiner. Very rare. .
Shrimali (History of Pancala) records an early king called Yajnapala, but here the legend clearly reads Yajnabala. The fabric is also a much later type, so this coin was issued by a hitherto unrecorded ruler Yajnabala.
