2nd century B.C. Æ. Bull standing right, with 4-orbed Ujjain symbol to left / Tree-in-railing in three dimension perspective. Wilfried Pieper, Ancient Indian Coins Revisited, 965. Rare. Dark brown patina. Very fine.
A damru (or damaru) is a two-headed drum associated with Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism. In Hinduism, it is considered the instrument of Lord Shiva, and he is shown playing it during his cosmic dance. Damaru-shaped coins were issued in ancient Kausambi only.
