MAXIMINUS II, as Caesar. 305-308 AD. AV Aureus (20mm - 5.38 g). Serdica mint. Struck 305-306 AD. MAXIMINV-S NOB CAES, laureate head right / PRINCIPI IVV-ENTVTIS, Maximinus standing left, holding globe in right hand, scepter in left, two standards behind; S (retrograde)//•SM•SD•. RIC IV 9b (this coin cited); Depeyrot 1/4; Calicó 5025; Cayon, Compendio, pg. 1945, 18a (this coin). EF, tiny flan flaw on reverse in left field and a few minor marks, well struck.
Ex Sir Arthur Evans Collection (Naville III, 16 June 1922), lot 174.
The Sigma in the left field indicates that these were being struck at a weight standard of 1/60th of a pound.
