Description
Severus Alexander. A.D. 222-235. Æ sestertius (30 mm, 26.30 g, 11 h). Rome, A.D. 226. IMP CAES M AVR SEV ALEXANDER AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Severus Alexander right / ANNONA AVGVSTI, S C across lower field, Annona standing facing, head left, holding grain ears over modius at fee to leftt, and cornucopiae. Cf. RIC 548 var. (no cuirass); BMC 346; cf. Banti 7 (same). Very rare variety - bust type only recorded on the BM specimen. Brown patina. Very fine.
