Description
Sicily, Norman Kingdom. Roger II. 1130-1154. AR ducato (25 mm, 1.79 g, 6 h). Palermo, regnal year 10 (1140). Nimbate bust of Christ facing, holding Gospels / Ruggero, Duke of Apulia, standing half-right, holding sword, and Ruggero II, standing facing, holding globus-cruciger, together supporting patriarchal cross between them; in inner left field, (AN)/R/X (formed as Λ). Spahr 72; MEC 212. Extremely fragile, broken with about 1/3 missing, smaller edge chips elsewhere. Extremely fine.
