Description
Maximinus I 'Thrax'. A.D. 235-238. Æ sestertius (32 mm, 24.94 g, 1 h). Rome, A.D. 236/7. MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG GERM, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Maximinus I right, seen from behind / VICTORIA GERMANICA, S C in exergue, emperor standing left, raising right hand and holding transverse spear in left, being crowned by Victory standing behind him, holding palm; to left, bound captive seated left, head right. RIC 93; BMC 198. Dark brown, almost black patina, slightly double struck on the obverse, a few splits on edge, minor roughness. Very fine.
