Description
Anglo-Saxon, Preliminary Sceattas. Ca. 675-680. AR sceatta (12 mm, 1.02 g). 'Vanimundus' series. Mint in Essex. Diademed bust right, holding scepter over shoulder / Cross pattée within double circle of pellets. Abramson grp. 2, 10; Metcalf 85-7; SCBI 63 (BM), 41 var.; North 12/2; SCBC 774. Rare. Toned, some light porosity, holed in antiquity for suspension, the suspension loop has been cut off but traces of it still remain in the hole. Very fine.
