Description
Anglo-Saxon, Kings of East Anglia. Aethelweard. 840-855. AR penny (20 mm, 1.12 g, 12 h). Mint in East Anglia (Ipswich?). Eadmund, moneyer. AEDELVVEARD REX, large A / + EADMVND M (runic A or composite of ONA)·, cross pattée; pellets in angles. Naismith E50j-k corr. = SCBI 30 (American), 232 (same obv. die); BMC 28; North 450; SCBC 953; EMC 2008.0435 = Coin Register (BNJ 2009), 298 (this coin). Very rare. Toned, slight bend in flan, crimp on edge from 11-12:00 and a small flan crack. Very fine.
Found in Suffolk in 2009.
