Description
India, Indo-Greeks. Strato II. ruled Ca. 25 B.C. - A.D. 10 AR drachm (15 mm, 2.25 g). Diademed and draped bust right, with Greek legend around / Athena Alkidemos advancing left, with Kharoshthi legend Maharajasa tratarasa Stratasa (of Great King Straton the Savior) around. HGC 12, 476; Mitchiner 473a. Very rare.
Strato II was one of the last Indo-Greek kings to rule in the Indian subcontinent. After Hippostratos, the rump of the Indo-Greeks survived until c. 10 AD in the eastern Punjab before they were replaced by the Indo-Scythians.
