PERSIA, QAJAR DYNASTY. Mohammad Shah (1250-1264 AH), Æ 50 dinar (7.86 gm; 24 mm). Obverse: mint: “Zarb-e Dar-ol khalafeh Tehran” (minted in the capital of Caliphate, Tehran), Date: 1263 AH, last year of the reign, Rare date. Reverse walking lion and sun to the left with value under the lion. Phrase “Dar-al-khalafeh” was used by Persia to compete with the Ottoman Turkey’s claim as being the leader of Islamic World. Well struck on a nice broad flan. Brown reddish patina. Choice Good VF.
