Description
A fine effigy bowl from Costa Rica, ca. 850 – 1250 AD. This unusual piece is 6” in diameter and depicts a frog. The head and tail are flanges finely detailed with paint, with the legs painted along the side of the chamber. The frog appears to be wearing a ceremonial necklace. There is some linear rim décor and good mineral deposits are visible on the deep red slip. Museum deaccession. Value range:$350 - 450
