Description

ISLAMIC ANTIQUE SEALS. Brass Seal. (11.82 gm; 24mm x 17mm x 20mm). Persia-Qajar period, phrase on either sides of an image (frontal portrait of either Naseraldin Shah or his son Mozzafar-aldin Shah), phrase to the left “Nowruz” followed by the second name to the right “Ali”, followed by the name “Shah” which is shown as an image and not in writing, thus creating the name of the owner of the seal which is “Nowruz Ali Shah”. dte 1325 AH (1907-1908 AD) coincides with the first year of the reign of Mohamad Ali Shah Qajar (1907-1909 AD). This is an extremely rare seal if not unique both in terms of artistic application of a portrait in place of the name as well as overall style. The portrait has been executed crudely yet highly recognizable. Not very many people would have been allowed to show the portrait of king on their seal unless they themselves were of the same royal blood line. This seal belonged to someone who was a prince from the royal lineage. Excellent condition.
