Anglo-Saxon, Kings of All England. Aethelred II. 978-1016. AR penny (19 mm, 1.42 g, 3 h). Helmet type (BMC viii, Hild. E). London. Godwine, moneyer. + EÐELRED REX Λ(ΝG)I, helmeted bust of Aethelred II left / + GOD-ÞI(NE) M'O L-VND, voided long cross with triple-crescent ends and pellet at center; in each quarter, trefoil on pile. North 775; SCBC 1152. Scarce. Pecked and slightly dented. Very fine.
