Description

Ionia, Magnesia on the Maeander. Ca. 155-145 B.C. AV stater (19 mm, 8.47 g, 12 h). Euphemus, son of Pausianius, magistrate. Diademed and draped bust of Artemis right, hair gathered into knot at back of head, quiver and bow at shoulder / MAΓNHTΩN, Nike, holding kentron and reins, driving galloping biga right; below, magistrate's names in two lines: ΕΥΘΗΜΟΣ and ΠΑΥΣΑΝΙΟY. SNG Von Aulock -; SNG Copenhagen -; BMC -. Better centered than most examples that have appeared. NGC AU, strike: 5/5, surface: 4/5.

A new denomination and type for the city, completely unknown until recently.
