Description

ALEXIUS III. 1195-1203. EL Aspron Trachy (30mm - 4.41 g). Constantinople mint. Christ enthroned facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels / Alexius and St. Constantine standing facing, holding labarum between them. DOC IV 2b; SB 2009. Good VF from the standpoint of wear but the entire coin is covered in bubbles which are under the surface and there is a flan crack. Not exactly sure what caused the bubbling as the coin does not appear to be a Fourrée (I can see the core in the flan crack). There is also a small spot of solder on the coin that was apparently applied to keep the crack from expanding. Odd, weird and ugly, but priced as such and SOLD AS IS.
