Description
CRISPINA, wife of Commodus. Augusta, 178-182 AD. AR Denarius (18mm - 3.12 g). Rome mint. CRISPINA AVGVSTA, draped bust left / DIS GENI-TALI-BVS, lighted altar. RIC III 281 var. (bust right); BMCRE 39 note (citing 1 specimen in Reka Devnia Hoard); RSC 16a. Pleasing VF, lightly toned. Very Rare.
No other reverse types are recorded for Crispina with left facing busts and only the one coin from the Reka Devnia hoard is recorded with this type, making this perhaps the second known specimen. There are no left facing bust Crispinas on Coin Archives and none on Wildwinds.
