Judaea, Herodian Kingdom. Herod I. 40 B.C.E.-4 C.E. Æ 8 prutot (28 mm, 6.94 g, 2 h). Samarian mint, perhaps Sebaste, regnal year 3 (38/7 B.C.E.). BAΣIΛEΩΣ HPOΔOY, tripod; in left field, date (L Γ); in right field, monogram; all within wreath / Helmet with cheek guards flanked by palms. TJC 44; Hendin 1169. Attractive desert patina. Good very fine.
