IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, laureate bust right, slight drapery on left shoulder / S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI, VIA TRAIANA in exergue, female (Via Traiana) reclining left on rocks, head turned right, holding wheel set on lap with right hand, branch in left hand. RIC II 266; BMCRE 487; RSC 648. Good VF, toned.

Struck to mark the construction of the imperial roadway between Beneventum and Brundisium.
