Description
SASANIAN KINGS. Yazdgird II. AD 438-457. Æ (1.62 gm; 17 mm). Obverse; Yazdgird's bust turning right, symbol of Cypress tree (Sarv) in front of face, reverse; standard, fire altar with attendants. Cypress tree holds a special place in the Sasanian culture as well as Zoroastrian culture. The sacred sites such as Abarkooh (Arabized Abarghoo) in Iran has a celebrated Cypress tree considered to be the birth place of Zoroaster. Lovely strike on a nice broad flan. Choice VF. Nice original find patina.
