Description
Lydia, Sardes. 2nd-1st centuries B.C. Æ (17 mm, 4.43 g, 12 h). Diotrephes, magistrate. Laureate head of a youthful Herakles right, lion's skin tied at neck / ΣΑΡΔΙΑΝΟΝ, Nude Apollo standing facing, head left, holding bird and laurel branch; monogram in left field, magistrate's name: ΔΙΟ-ΤΡЄΘ/HΣ; all within laurel wreath. Cf. SNG Copenhagen 492-9 (magistrate); cf. BMC 32-6 var. (same); LGCI -. Unrecorded magistrate? Green patina. Very fine.
