Van Meter notes, "the early portraits of Maximinus were executed before a likeness of the new emperor arrived at the mint, thus they are pure fiction, and rather resemble Severus Alexander." This coin is an early portrait. Maximinus was a man of "enormous physical stature," and later coins portray him with a large chin and beard. Ex Ray Wilk architectural collection.
