Achaia, Patrai. Ca. mid-late 30s B.C. AR hemidrachm (15 mm, 1.96 g, 8 h). Damasias, son of Agesilaus, magistrate. Head of Aphrodite (with features of Cleopatra VII) right, wearing stephane / ΔA/MACIAC in two lines; monogram of Patrai below; all within laurel wreath tied at the bottom. BCD 525-8; SNG Lockett 2348; BMC 2-3; McClean 6325-8. Good VF, toned.

The portrait of Aphrodite on this coin strongly resembles the portrait of Cleopatra VII found on a slightly later issue of the city (cf. BCD 531-2), and seems to have intentionally honored the queen.
