Description
Egypt, Alexandria. Nero. A.D. 54-68. BI tetradrachm (24 mm, 12.98 g, 12 h). Regnal year 13 (A.D. 66/7). NEPΩ KΛA[Y KAIΣ ΣEB ΓEP AY], radiate bust of Nero left, wearing aegis; in left field, date (L IΓ) / [ΣEBAΣTO]ΦOPOΣ, galley with steersman at stern sailing right. Kšln 184-6; RPC 5296; Dattari 264; Milne 273-6; Kampmann & Ganschow 14.99 corr. (obv. legend). Nearly VF.
The reverse legend means 'Bearer of the Emperor' and apparently refers to Nero's trip to Greece in 66-7 to participate in the Olympics and other sacred games.
