6th century A.D. Æ coin (14 mm, 1.88 g). Spider (or octopus?) within circular border / Traces of legend. Not listed in any catalog. This is the first specimen with a spider (or octopus) â€“ none has been recorded till now. Very rare. Very fine.

After the collapse of Gupta power in Gujarat, there was a profusion of local coinage in copper that depicted animals, such as boars, fish and lions.
