Description
Vima Takto (also known as 'Soter Megas' or Great Savior). A.D. 90-113. Æ tetradrachm (21 mm, 7.54 g). King on horseback right, holding whip; Greek legend around (rounded letters) / Zeus standing right, holding long staff, with Kharoshthi letter Vi to left and flower pot to right. MACW 2915. Scarce and choice. Fine.
Mitchiner says the object before Zeus is a vase or flower pot. According to Pankaj Tandon, it could well be a fire altar. In later Kushan coins the king is seen sacrificing at a fire altar, and perhaps this is a precursor to that type. The Kharoshti letter vi probably stood for Vima (Takha).
