Description
2nd century B.C. Æ coin (14 mm, 3.44 g). Elephant advancing left, with hollow cross above; indradhavaja and swastika to left / Tree-in-railing to left; taurine in centre; to right, 3-arched hill above hollow cross. Pieper 187 var.; MACW 4287 var.. This arrangement of symbols is very hard to find. Our specimen has a swastika to left of the elephant - not recorded by Pieper. Very rare and choice. Very fine.
The uninscribed cast copper coins (UCCC) of northern India are the earliest copper coins issued in the subcontinent.
