JOHN III Ducas (Vatatzes). Emperor of Nicaea, 1222-1254. AV Hyperpyron (26mm - 4.61 g). Magnesia mint. Christ enthroned facing; • to right / John, wearing loros and holding labarum and akakia, standing facing and being crowned and blessed by the Theotokos. DOC IV 6b; SB 2073. Good VF, a few scratches on either side, well struck except for Theotokos' face which is flat.
