Description

Qajar Persia- Fath Ali Shah (1797-1834 AD, 1212-1250 AH), Silver Rial (6.85 gm; 23 mm). Sahabqeran type. date 1241 AH (1826 AD), mint: Semnaan. Choice EF. Toned. Extremely rare mint. "Semnaan and its neighboring city Damghan’s suburbs were utilized for massive military camp during the visit of FathAli Shah to the holy city of Mashahd. In earlier years it served as staging ground for dispatching forces to crush the rebellions in Mashahd, Sabsevar and Nishapur and further east in Herat. Year 1241 coincides with the first year of the second round of Russo-Persian wars. Travel to visit the holy city of Mashhad was conducted to pray and request divine intervention for victory against Russia, given Persia was not ready to engage Russians and only was pushed to it by the a Fatwah of the Persian Shia leaders to re-capture the moslem lands of Caucasus that had come under the occupation of Christians".
