Description
A large Roman red-ware shallow bowl, North Africa, c. 2nd - 3rd Century AD, the walls gently sloping, and a wide convex rim, a fine, circular parallel grooves incised on floor and a single groove on rim. The vessel is thin-walled and well thrown, with a flat disk base with thin, circular groove. H: 1 ½” (2.8 cm); D: 10” (25.4 cm). Intact, light earthen deposits. Well-preserved slip. Hayes, Roman Pottery (Ontario, 1976), p. 22, no. 97 for the type. Ex Orange County private collection. Value Range: $575 - $675.
