A pair of Roman gold earrings, 2nd - 3rd Century AD. The first is a shield with pendant type. The semispherical shield bordered by flowing radiating lines, a central bezel containing a blue-green paste inlay is flanked by six applied spirals in gold wire. The hoop is intact and attached at the top, the pendant moves freely by means of a profiled hoop, cylindrical body with horizontal fluting, ending in a grape-like ornament. L: 1 ½” (3.8 cm). Intact and nice. The second earring is a stud on an S-shaped wire, a narrow gold flange around the bezel. The translucent glass stone is somewhat degraded and once faceted. L: 1” (2.5 cm). Intact. Ex Orange County private collection; Ex Museum of Man, San Diego, Cal. by extended loan. Value Range $550 - $650.
