SAFAVID DYNASTY. Shah Isma'il (1501-1524 AD & 901-924 AH) AR 1/4 Shahi(?) (0.96 gm; 14 mm). obverse; at the center phrase "Beh Bovad" in Persian meaning "All will be good" mint Tabriz on the top,date partially visible at the bottom 9--(?), reverse, at the center "La Ellaha ella Allah, Mohamad Rasoul allah" meaning There is no God but Allah and Mohamd is his Prophet, surrounded by floral frame and name of 12 Shia Imams. According to Farahbaksh, many coins noted with phrases such as "Beh Bovad" were minted to pay the troops who supported Ismail to recover after his defeat from the Ottomans in 1514 in the Battle of Chaldiran.
